Delivering food in the SGBK zone with Deliveroo, Day 1

Hello friend. Yesterday I attempted to deliver food in a completely new zone. Why did I do this? A couple of reasons - was getting too comfortable with the Jurong East roads, so I needed a new challenge; and I was thinking I might be able to get more pay per hour in this zone.

Although the zone is new, this area of Singapore not new to me. I grew up in the southside, so I'm familiar with the roads there.

Some initial thoughts:

1. There were more hills than in Jurong East - Paterson Hill, Jervois, Cuscaden Road comes to mind.

2. Delivering in the Orchard Road area was ... "interesting". Had to figure out how to ride in one-way streets, and make sure I get familiar with where to park.

3. Orders were surprisingly slow. The morning was horribly slow. I started my shift at 9:30am and got ONE order. Then, no orders up to 11am. Lunch was pretty good, but Deliveroo was assigning me jobs that were so far, e.g. delivering from Orchard to Balmoral area, up to Bukit Timah. I had to reject those orders. I'm prefer to stay in the south. My calculated Pay Per Hour (PPH) for yesterday was lower too, at close to $15/hour. PPH at JE would be around $16-$17.

I'm pretty tired today, thanks to the intense workout. But am not giving up the zone yet. Will check back soon after this week.

❤️ Bernie
